One of my teachers outlined an interesting exercise he has seen used with clients.

If they have a values statement, reverse it. So, if they say “we value transparency” change it to “we value obfuscation”….and so on.

Most of us say what we would like people to think we are, but very often we say them because we know we’re not. We operate from the shadow of our statements.

It’s uncomfortably challenging, and salutary.

Living up to who we say we are is an act of real courage.
